In Shanghai, a global metropolis where land is at a premium, the challenge of parking has long hampered urban operations and affected daily life. Set to be operational in May 2025, the Jing’an Mingyuan Smart Garage will be one of the world’s largest vertically excavated smart underground garages. At the heart of this landmark underground development project is Qingdao Hicorp Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (“Qingdao Hicorp Heavy Industry”), whose independently developed Φ22.6-meter segment mould—the largest of its kind globally—provides key technical support for constructing this "underground giant."

The Jing’an Mingyuan Smart Garage reaches a depth of 50.5 m—equivalent to a 17-story building—and employs a vertical shaft shield tunneling method with a record-breaking 23-meter excavation diameter, executed by the “Mengxiang Hao” shield machine of China Railway 15th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. As the exclusive supplier of the segment moulds for the project, Qingdao Hicorp Heavy Industry’s Φ22.6-meter super-large-diameter mould ensures each precast segment is precisely aligned, forming a seamless and robust underground wall for the structure.


In response to the rigorous demands of large-scale underground construction, Qingdao Hicorp Heavy Industry carried out precise calculations and mechanical analyses during the design phase. The production process adopted high-strength materials and advanced machining techniques. Throughout manufacturing, a smart detection system was used to control key parameters such as dimensional precision and surface hardness. The moulds offer excellent compressive strength and wear resistance, ensuring that each segment can withstand long-term underground geological loads and enabling efficient shield construction. This structural integrity is key to realizing the garage's design goal of enabling vehicle retrieval every 40 seconds.
