On the afternoon of December 12, 2025, the 5th Forum on the Development of Ecological Concrete and the results release event of the 4th “Hohai University Cup” Ecological Concrete Innovative Design and Application Competition were successfully held in Nanjing.
The event was hosted by the Eco-Concrete Branch of the China Concrete and Cement-based Products Association (CCPA), co-organized by Hohai University and the Concrete Art Industry Committee of CCPA, and jointly undertaken by JJiangsu Sanhejian Environmental Protection Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., Nanjing Biaomei Ecological Environment Technology Co., Ltd., and CON-Concrete Design.
With the theme “Low Carbon Materials, Eco Friendly Structures, Diversified Scenarios”, the forum focused on new products, new technologies, and new engineering applications in the ecological concrete sector. The event received strong support from a range of organizations.
Attendees included Zhang Yan, President of CCPA and Chairman of the Eco-Concrete Branch; Zhao Haitao, Vice Chairman of the Eco-Concrete Branch and Dean of the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation at Hohai University; Ding Jiankang, Executive Vice Chairman of the Eco-Concrete Branch and Senior Chief Engineer of Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute (Group) Co., Ltd.; Zhou Liang, National Master of Engineering Survey and Design, Vice Chairman of the Eco-Concrete Branch and Director of the Expert Committee, and Senior Chief Engineer of Shanghai Urban Construction Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd., and more than 150 participants attended the meeting, including vice chairs of the Eco-Concrete Branch; deputy directors and members of the Branch Expert Committee; industry experts and scholars; representatives from vice chair units and council member units of the Branch; representatives of member organizations; and representatives of the project teams of entries for the Ecological Concrete Innovative Design and Application Competition.

Zhao Haitao, speaking on behalf of Hohai University as the host and co-organizer, delivered the opening remarks. He warmly welcomed President Zhang Yan and the experts, scholars, and enterprise representatives from across the country, and expressed sincere gratitude for the trust and support from the hosting Eco-Concrete Branch of CCPA, along with the meticulous preparation and dedicated efforts of the organizing and supporting units. He noted that Hohai University has long been committed to advancing research and education in civil engineering, water resources, and eco environmental fields. In response to China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and the needs of ecological civilization development, the university has built a solid foundation in the research and application of eco-concrete, consistently promoting industry academia research integration and supporting the sector’s green transition. He emphasized that the forum theme closely aligns with industry trends and national strategic priorities, providing a high-quality platform for cutting edge technical exchange, innovative achievements showcase, and demand matching. He concluded by encouraging in depth discussion and consensus building among participants to contribute wisdom and strength to the industry’s high-quality development, while expressing expectations for deeper future collaboration across industry, academia, research, and application.

In his opening address, Zhang Yan expressed appreciation to the experts, scholars, and relevant enterprises that have long supported the development of the ecological concrete sector. He pointed out that as China advances its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals and ecological civilization development, the industry’s green transition has become an essential task, and the ecological concrete sector is entering a period of significant opportunity while also facing challenges such as key technological breakthroughs and standards harmonization. Since its establishment in 2019, the Eco-Concrete Branch has taken the promotion of green transformation and upgrading as its mission, building an integrated platform for industry academia research and application through consecutive ecological concrete development forums. The Ecological Concrete Innovative Design and Application Competition has become a model for collaborative innovation, with many award-winning entries already implemented in real projects, achieving a transition from competition outcomes to market adoption. He encouraged experts to share frontier results and practical cases to help steer industry development. He also expressed hope that the competition will facilitate the implementation of more industry innovations. He concluded by wishing the ecological concrete sector, at the new starting point of the 15th Five Year Plan period, greater progress through coordinated innovation across industry, academia, research, and application, achieving both technological breakthroughs and industrial upgrading and advancing toward higher quality development.

Following the opening ceremony, the results release session for the 4th “Hohai University Cup” Ecological Concrete Innovative Design and Application Competition was held. Zhou Liang delivered the overall review of this edition of the competition. He noted that the competition serves as an important platform for the transformation of innovative achievements, while also offering a clear demonstration of the depth of ecological concrete applications. Compared with previous editions, this year’s submissions achieved improvements in both quantity and quality, with broader scenario coverage and stronger engineering applicability, reflecting the industry’s vigorous innovation vitality. He expressed the expectation that outstanding resultes will accelerate engineering conversion and scaled promotion, injecting strong momentum into the implementation of China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategies and the development of ecological civilization.

Centered on the theme “Low Carbon Materials, Eco Friendly Structures, Diversified Scenarios”, the forum arranged 10 invited presentations with carefully designed agenda content. Ding Jiankang and Dong Biqin chaired the first and second halves of the program, respectively. The presentations combined breadth and depth, covering representative application cases of eco-concrete in key fields such as water conservancy and water transport, municipal engineering, landscape and gardens and ecological restoration. They highlighted the latest product iterations and technological innovations, and incorporated in depth interpretation of industry standards and practical guidance for engineering application. The forum delivered rich, highly practical content in a compact schedule, offering participants an efficient and results oriented exchange platform.

After the forum concluded, on the morning of December 13, participants conducted on site visits to the Nanjing Guorui Science Park project of the Second Construction Co., Ltd. of CSCEC 7th Division and the Daishan Road North Extension project undertaken by Tongli Construction Group Co., Ltd. The visit showcased a backfill application case of flowable solidified soil prepared from excavated soil and slurry, supported by material supply and technical assistance from Jiangsu Sanhejian Environmental Protection Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd.
