It is well known that the unbalanced distribution of water resource imposes restriction on the economy development of China severely. In the 60s, Chairman Mao first plotted the “South-to-North water diversion” plan.

The “South-to-North water diversion” plan is not limited to diversion the water from Yantze River to Beijing area which suffers from water scarcity. Instead, it is a systematic project on the national scale, of which the supplementation of Yellow River is a part.

The Guanzhong watershed of Yellow River in history was called “Eight Hundred Miles Qin Land”, famous for its prosperity and beauty, now suffers from water scarcity about 1.73 billion cubic meters.

The one-of-a-kind “Hang River to Wei River water diversion” project is essentially a project to divert water from Yantze River to Yellow River. In order to achieve the great goal, one has to cut through the largest geography barrier, Qinling Mountains.

According to the project schedule, Qinling water tunnel will be accomplished in 2019 and the whole project in 2030. From then on, millions of residents along Yellow River will benefit tremendously from the project.
