Research and application of crack control technology for concrete structure

On June 6th, 2020, China Concrete and Cement-based Products Association organized the scientific and technological achievement appraisal meeting for the project entitled as "Research and application of crack control technology for concrete structure", which was completed by Beijing Zhongqi Zhuochuang Technology Development Co., Ltd (Beijing Zhongqi Zhuochuang).

In modern concrete, cracks are difficult to be prevented, because there are too many factors involved. A concrete component, from the structural design, raw materials processing, mix proportion, construction management to the environment, there are many factors to cause cracks. How to solve the problem of cracks in concrete structure is a research key point all around the world. Concrete pavement is the most important airport pavement structure in China. At present, the cracks and the loss of durability have become the key problems in concrete pavement that affect the safe operation of airport pavement, and are the technical problems that civil aviation airports must try to solve at this stage.

Beijing Daxing International Airport

 

Since 2015, Beijing Zhongqi Zhuochuang has set up a research team for the engineering of Beijing Daxing International Airport, to carry out the project entitled as "Research and application of crack control technology for concrete structure". It was the first time that taking cement into the quality control system in the concrete structure engineering. The research team customized specified cement, adjusted its mineral composition, fineness and particle size distribution, and controlled the influencing factors such as hydration heat and early strength that affect the occurrence of concrete cracks. The workability, strength and durability of the concrete made from the customized specified cement are systematically studied. It is found that some characteristics of the customized specified cement concrete are equivalent to that of ordinary cement concrete, some are even better, especially superior crack resistance. In the construction of the Beijing Daxing International Airport engineering, the research team summarized advanced concrete mix and construction technology, put forward strict construction management requirements, carried out detailed accident responsibility division and resolutely implemented, and finally formed a complete set of technology including specified cement production, concrete preparation, construction technology and construction management, which provided technical support for the crack control of different types of concrete structures.

Through the scientific and technological research, a complete set of concrete structure crack control technology is developed, which can improve the durability of concrete structure, effectively avoid obvious cracks. Based on the application in Beijing Daxing International Airport, the achievements of this research meet the technical requirements of high durability and high crack resistance of airport concrete structure in China, greatly reduce concrete cracks, prolong service life, and greatly reduce the maintenance cost of airport pavement.
