Pipe and box culvert is the hard core "skeleton" in the construction of water conservancy, transportation and municipal engineering. China's pipe and box culvert industry has been underpinning the construction of key projects for many years, especially the jacking construction method in key projects where precast concrete pipe and box culvert has the irreplaceable advantage of on-site casting. In recent years, Φ4000mm pipes have been widely used in underground engineering in big cities across China. Crossing rivers, seas, deserts and rock layers, long-distance trenchless pipe jacking and jacking pipe and box culvert projects has been linked up one after another. Various composite corrosion-resistant linings are widely used in sewage treatment projects, and nearly all pipeline connections are linked by flexible interfaces.

Take the application of some key projects in 2021 as an example.

The first domestic immersed tunnel in the whole industrial chain is applied in Xiangyang city, Hubei Province.

At the end of November, 2021, on both the east and west axis of Xiangyang city, a sub-central city in Hubei Province, the inland river immersed tube tunnel with the largest overall construction scale in China was applied. In this 5.4-kilometer-long tunnel structure, the immersed tube tunnel crossing the Han River twice has a total length of 1.01 kilometers. Here, the builders successfully built the first domestic immersed tube tunnel in the whole industrial chain, which epitomized the great role of pipe and box culvert industry in key projects.

The first rectangular pipe jacking project under the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in China—The rectangular pipe jacking of Tunnel Project in Xutao Road—Hengshan Road in Suzhou city was successfully launched on June 18th, 2021, and successfully completed on September 15th, 2021. The rectangular concrete box culvert was used in the project with a section size of 9.8m×5.9m.

A batch of large diameter reinforced concrete pipe jacking projects

The comprehensive control project of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) along Jinshan Lake in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, is a major environmental control project in pilot sponge city in Zhenjiang, with a nominal inner diameter of 4000mm, and the whole pipeline was opened on September 30th, 2021. Φ3500mm reinforced concrete pipe jacking is adopted in the almost completed reconstruction project of main south line in Shanghai. The 4000×400×2500mm reinforced concrete pipe jacking is used in the utility tunnel project in Huanggang city, Hubei Province, and the construction is nearing completion. The 4000×350×2500mm and 3500×320×2500mm reinforced concrete pipe jacking are used in the second-phase expansion drainage project of Haikou Meilan International Airport in Hainan province, which is currently under construction.

Application engineering of reinforced concrete circular pipe with pedestal

In recent years, the application examples of reinforced concrete circular pipe engineering with pedestal include the drainage project of Cheshui Road in Nanming District, Guiyang, Guizhou Province, which adopts DN3500X2000mm external pressure Class II tongue-and-groove drainage pipe with pedestal; The application of DN3200mm reinforced concrete circular pipe with pedestal in the External Drainage Project of the refining and chemical integration project of Gulei, Xiamen; Mouth-type drainage pipe with pedestal and socket-type drainage pipe with pedestal are widely used in project of Central United Invariable Group in Xiamen, Fujian Province ( Neikun Avenue project of Tongan- Xiangan High-tech Industrial Base in Xiamen) and project of China Railway Shiju Group No.3 Engineering Co., Ltd. (East Extension of Shengyan Road in Urban Renewal Phase I in Jimei New Town, Xiamen etc.)

Application engineering of lined anti-corrosion pipeline

In 2021, the reconstruction project of Shanghai urban sewage transmission south main line adoptedΦ3500mm lined PE reinforced concrete composite pipes. The excavation and jacking construction lining fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) composite pipes used in many projects, including the sewage interception pipe of Hangzhoudong Railway Station, the sewage pipe network project of Cixi, Zhejiang, the integrated pipe and road integration project of a new Airpot City in Shenzhen, the water body improvement and upgrading project of Zhongshan, the first phase project of comprehensive improvement of Maozhou River basin (Dongguan part), etc., and many other projects were fully approved by the design, construction, supervision and project parts. The Shanghai Sewage Project in Baoshan district being designed is expected to adopt large diameter FRP composite pipe with diameter above Φ3000mm.

Application of steel socket reinforced concrete pipe jacking

In 2021, φ 3,000 mm ~ φ 3,500 mm steel socket pipes were used in the south extension project of Jinyang Road, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, Taiyuan Metro Line 1, Chuanhua Logistics Port; Reconstruction and expansion of Dingsi Road drainage project in Changping District, Beijing. With its good sealing performance of the joint after the inflation of steel socket and high concrete density of the pipe body, reinforced concrete drainage pipe with steel socket meets the needs of water pressure (low pressure) in belt, curve and long-distance jacking construction performance, which is fully recognized by the engineering, construction and design parties. The development of reinforced concrete drainage pipe with steel socket will improve the market competitiveness of reinforced concrete pipes and pipes made of other materials to a certain extent.
