The project of “Preparation technology and application of cementitious material with ultra-high performance for ultra-large volume mine filling” by Anhui Magang Jiahua New Building Materials Co., Ltd won the third prize of 2020 CCPA Concrete Science and Technology Award (Technology Innovation).
As the main component of iron tailings waste, iron tailings sand has similar physical morphology and mechanical properties to natural sand. It can replace natural sand as fine aggregate in mortar and concrete. Iron tailing sand can be used as fine aggregate, and iron tailing powder with small particle size can also be used as filling cementitious material.
In order to make full use of iron tailing powder, desulfurization ash and other solid wastes with potential cementitious properties, the research team carried out a series of study on new cementitious material. Iron tailing powder, desulfurization ash and slag micro powder are used as cementitious components, iron tailing sand and steel slag are selected as fine aggregates, and sodium hydroxide and gypsum are used to activate the cementitious materials. The development and preparation cost is low, so as it is a good choice to used as new cementitious material for ultra-large volume mine filling with high performance.

The main innovations of the project are as follows.
lMade full use of industrial solid waste materials such as iron tailings powder, slag powder and desulfurization ash.
lDetermined the optimal mix proportion of cementitious material for ultra-large volume mine filling , the aggregates of which are all solid waste.
lOptimized the filling construction technology of cementitious material for ultra-large volume mine filling.

This project have been applied in the filling of more than 10 mines in Ma'anshan city and its surrounding areas, effectively promoted the development and industrial application of systematic complete set of solid waste resource utilization technology, improved the resource utilization efficiency.
