Power Plant of the Upper Tamaksi Hydropower Station in Nepal

Nepal is rich in water resources. As the hydropower station with the largest government investment and installed capacity in the country so far, Upper Tamaksi Hydropower Station can be called "the glory of the country". Many national leaders of Nepal have made field visits to the project.

The power station is constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 11 Co., Ltd. of China Power Construction Group Co. Ltd. and Sinohydro Bureau 6 Co., Ltd as a joint venture. The total installed capacity is 456 megawatts, accounting for 36% of the national power supply, which can contribute about 1% of the gross domestic product. Since July 2021, when the first unit of the project was connected to the grid, a total of 970 million kWh of electricity was generated, and an economic benefit of Rs. 4 billion was created.

China Power Construction Group Co. Ltd. has a long history in Nepal. It first built Sunkoshi Hydropower Station with China's assistance in Nepal from 1969 to 1971. Since the independent development of the country's market in 1987, it has completed more than 10 projects including Bagmati Irrigation Project, Tangshen Highway, Kathmandu Solar Street Lamp Project and PuOuakrat Hydropower Station.
Among them, Shangma Xiangdi A Hydropower Station is the first project in Nepal that integrates development, construction and operation by Chinese enterprise, and it is also the first to realize power generation ahead of schedule in the history of hydropower construction Nepal. After it was put into operation in 2017, it directly provided a 5% stable power supply to the national power grid, and improved the power cut-off in Kathmandu, the capital.

Some projects undertaken by China Power Construction in Nepal
It is worth mentioning that in 2013, the university textbook "Hydropower Engineering" published in Nepal introduced three engineering projects undertaken by China Power Construction Group Co. Ltd. in Upper Tamaksi Hydropower Station, Kurikani Hydropower Station and Shangma Xiangdi A Hydropower Station in a prominent position at the beginning.

Three projects undertaken by China Power Construction Group Co. Ltd. have been incorporated into university textbooks in Nepal
